Nebraska Fawns
Deanos-fawns-20x30Nebraska Scenery
This image was captured August 11, 2012, just yards from the Dean Sholtz home near Guide Rock, Nebraska. Submitted to NEBRASKAland Magazine for their 2014 annual photo contest (the first and only such contest I've ever entered), it was awarded 1st place in the Mammals category and published as a two-page spread!
I originally called this pair "Milkweed & Hemp" (a reference to the surrounding foliage) but NEBRASKAland saw fit to re-caption the image: "White-tailed fawns walk by a stand of snow-on-the-mountain, a native annual."

First Sunset of the New Year
Deanos-Fence-20x30
January 31, 2015, along Road B at Sholtz Farms south of Guide Rock. On a tripod with a typical Nebraska breeze (you can see movement in some of the grass), using an ultra wide lens with small aperture setting is the technique that created the starburst effect naturally, in camera, without any filters or add-ons.

Springtime Nebraska Thunderstorm
Deanos-Springtime-in-Nebraska-20x30
It was a June evening at Hastings, Nebraska. The Smith Softball Complex had just been evacuated due to incoming weather, so I just had to set up to catch the moment. This is a two-second exposure, capturing the internal green glow from the lightning strike, along with the wall cloud hanging to the lower right!

Just Before Dawn...
Deanos-milkyway-16x27
Mark Sholtz and I got up plenty early to catch the view at Sholtz Farms this 2018 March morning. At first it looked like too cloudy, then, at 6:11 a.m., just as pending sunrise began to color the eastern horizon, there was a break in the clouds. We used flashlights to "paint" the foreground with light during the 20-second exposure.

Nebraska Crane Migration
Deanos-crane-sunset-16x24
From an overnight adventure in a blind along the Platte River south of Alda, Nebraska. It was well past sunset and I was beginning to think I wouldn't get any cranes at my location. Then, as the light was nearly gone, hundreds dropped in right in front of me and stayed there overnight!
